Kaitlin creates her trompe-l’oeil fabric drawings using multiple layers of coloured pencil on an exposed wood panel surface. Adding multiple layers gradually builds up the vibrancy and saturation of the colours to create dimension within every drawing. Her drawings transform heirloom garments and fabrics into cherished works of art for the home.

For this year's Artist Project, Kal Mansur will be launching a new series of large-scale paintings. Kate Maura is an emerging mixed media artist based in Toronto, whose work is inspired by plein air drawing and butterfly wings. She's drawn to their torn edges, marks and larger forms finding unusual shapes pieced together, creating mysterious worlds of their own. It is the feeling of calm and wonder that her lyrical visual language conveys.

My art is a joyful interpretation of nature. Inspiration often comes to me at the cottage; the feeling of grounded calm & dynamic movement that happens so beautifully in nature.…positive & negative, energy & calm, push & pull of the Lake. I create with those seemingly opposing energies always in my mind’s eye.

Kristi McDonald is a professional artist who works primarily in painting mediums. In 2021 she released a series of oil paintings that explored connections of past experiences illustrated through experimental expressionism. She plans to continue exploring and developing these themes in future work from her home studio in Komoka, ON.
